Hong Kong Research Company Director Explains How Long It Will Take for Bitcoin to Be Adopted by Everyone

Fu Rao, Executive Director of the Hong Kong International New Economy Research Institute, based in Hong Kong, argued in his analysis titled “Speculative Characteristics Weaken, Bitcoin Volatility Stabilizes,” published in the Hong Kong newspaper Ta Kung Pao, that Bitcoin’s rise in 2025 differs significantly from previous cycles.

According to Fu Rao, the main reason for this divergence is that the proliferation of spot ETFs has significantly eased access to Bitcoin for both institutional and individual investors. This structure has spread price formation to a wider investor base, while also contributing to more controlled volatility compared to past cycles.

Another point highlighted in the analysis is that the recent price correction has been relatively limited compared to the sharp pullbacks of the previous four to five years. Rao suggested that this could be linked to the impact of macroeconomic conditions on traditional investment strategies.

Regarding expectations for 2026, the market is reportedly divided. One view argues that Bitcoin could experience a significant correction and return to lower price ranges, while the opposing view suggests it could reach $150,000 by the end of the year and target $250,000 in 2027.

Rao added that while Bitcoin is largely integrated into the traditional financial system, it will still take time to achieve the same level of social acceptance as gold. According to the analysis, Bitcoin needs 5 to 10 years to reach a similar social status to gold.
