SoftBank is in talks to invest up to $30 billion more in OpenAI, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
The Japanese technology investment firm already holds approximately 11% of OpenAI following a $22.5 billion investment in December 2025. The additional funding under discussion would further cement SoftBankâs position as one of the largest shareholders in the AI developer.
OpenAI is seeking to raise as much as $100 billion in total new funding, which could value the company at around $830 billion. The ChatGPT creator is exploring multiple capital sources, including an IPO and Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds.
The discussions remain ongoing, and terms could still change.
