Legendary digital artist Mike Winkelmann, better known as Beeple, has published a piece of dystopian artwork that immortalizes Strategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor and trolls his Bitcoin master plan.
The artwork, simply captioned “MICAHEL SAYLOR BUYING THE LAST BITCOIN IN 2140,” visualizes Saylor’s recently stated ambition to relentlessly accumulate the flagship cryptocurrency until the network stops producing new coins.
A dystopian vision
The artwork made by the artist behind the NFT bonanza features a hyper-surreal, grimy, and dystopian aesthetic that Beeple is known for.
It depicts a heavily muscled, weathered, and cyborg-enhanced version of Saylor sitting in a post-apocalyptic room with exposed bricks and broken windows.
The futuristic Saylor is adorned in rusted metal shoulder armor and a headpiece. There is a glass containment unit built into his abdomen. A preserved version of Saylor’s face is seen floating inside the purple liquid of the container.
His dirt-covered “Gateway 2000” desktop computer is surrounded by scurrying rats and a massive mountain of physical coins. A green-text monitor displays the culmination of his life’s work: TRANSACTION IN PROGRESS… PURCHASING FINAL BITCOIN… DONE. REMAINING SUPPLY: 0.00000000 $BTC. SATOSHI CONFIRMED.
Bitcoin has a hard-capped maximum supply of 21 million coins, and the block reward halves every four years. The final fraction of a Bitcoin is not projected to be mined until roughly the year 2140.
Beeple’s inspiration for the bizarre piece likely stems from a recent CNBC interview where Saylor explicitly stated that the company will keep buying $BTC until 2140. “Our company will probably buy all of the Bitcoin that gets produced by the miners between here and the year 2140. Then there’s no more Bitcoin.”
