Tron’s ‘gasless’ USDT transfers doubles to $3B in 2026: Report

On July 23, 2026 by voice

Tron ‘gasless’ stablecoin transfers have doubled in 2026, underscoring a major pivot that could position it as one of the top settlement layers for payment applications.

According to a CryptoQuant report, ‘gasless’ $USDT transfers hit a record $3 billion in 2026, up from a low of about $1.5 billion in January. In fact, the gasless transfer volume has risen from zero in early 2025 to a record high in mid-2025, underscoring strong adoption.

The problem with traditional stablecoin payments

Conventionally, for one to transfer funds across blockchains, you’re required to hold the chain’s gas token to pay for bandwidth and energy usage. For Solana, that would be SOL, and for Tron, that would be TRX.

In other words, without a gas token, you can’t leverage the chain regardless of the amount of your $USDT, USDC, or any stablecoin balance on the chain.

This has been a key friction point for payments to leverage the speed and touted cost efficiency of stablecoin transfers. In fact, this prompted players like Stripe’s Tempo, Circle’s Arc, and the upcoming Google chain to remove the gas tokens.

Will GasFree push Tron beyond P2P stablecoin transfers?

To counter the competition, Tron unveiled the GasFree project to abstract the network fee by deducting a small charge from each transfer. This is similar to traditional payments, where the operator takes a fraction of the transferred amount.

The model seems to be enjoying wide acceptance and adoption. Notably, unique users of the GasFree hit a record 30K, and the number of transactions also surged to a peak of 196K. CryptoQuant added,

GasFree transactions and active users reached record highs, confirming a structural uptrend.

Based on the rising gasless $USDT volume and adoption, CryptoQuant concluded that Tron is transitioning into the application layer, just like Stripe’s Tempo.

GasFree volume now runs well above 2025’s peak, indicating that abstracting fee payment is not a niche convenience but a core enabler of application activity on Tron, letting projects onboard $USDT-only users at scale.

In fact, some payment integrators like Rhino.fi already leverage Tron for spendable $USDT balances, further underscoring this shift.

Additionally, the gasless transfers are reportedly stable and cheap at about a $1.5 median fee for a $16K transfer. This was a positive update to another friction point with conventional gas-based transfers; the charges would spike during peak blockchain demand.

It remains to be seen whether other players like Solana and Polygon will adopt the same to rival players like Stripe that are coming for their market share. That said, Tron’s stablecoin volume dominance has dropped from 43% in 2024 to 20% as of mid-2026.

Final Summary

  • Tron’s gasless $USDT transfers hit $3 billion, rising from $1.5 billion in 2026 alone.
  • The move comes as Tron’s market share in stablecoin volume has dropped from 43% to 20% since 2024.
