Bitcoin short-term holder losses narrow to 4%: Structure builds for BTC’s rebound

On July 24, 2026 by voice

Bitcoin’s [$BTC] recent profitability profile may be the key factor setting the asset up for a longer-term rally, given the immediate structure of the market.

The asset has climbed from a July low of $57,800 to $65,777 twenty-two days later, a recovery that has reshaped the position of the market’s newest participants.

That rally brought a shift in dynamics that now leaves short-term holders—investors who have held their coins for fewer than 155 days—needing to sit on their positions longer before they can return to profit.

Bitcoin short-term holder losses narrow to 4%

The profit and loss margin for Bitcoin short-term holders has shifted significantly, and the move may push the cohort to change its sentiment and hold for longer. Bitcoin’s price is now closing in on the group’s cost basis, which sits at $68,800 at the time of writing.

That narrowing gap implies the cohort may wait a while longer simply to break even, let alone take profit, keeping a portion of recently accumulated supply off the market in the meantime.

Short-Term Holder Realized Profit and Loss puts the group’s loss margin at roughly -4.0% at the time of this report, recovering from -20.48% on the 6th of June and marking one of the sharpest improvements in the metric this quarter.

A cross above the zero mark would return the cohort to profit and imply a higher valuation for Bitcoin across the broader holder base.

The last occasion Bitcoin flipped into that zone, on the 23rd of April 2025, preceded a run from $92,000 to an all-time high of $126,000 in October 2025, and a similar trajectory may be forming now.

Accumulation and a golden cross point to bullish momentum

Bitcoin’s structure suggests the asset is gearing up for a rebound. The Accumulation/Distribution indicator, a volume-weighted tool that gauges whether buying or selling dominates the market, has continued to climb.

The reading has now reached 4.69 million in accumulated Bitcoin volume, a level last seen in June before the asset staged a significant surge, and it points to gradual, sustained buying across the market.

Adding to the outlook, a golden cross formed between the 19th and the 20th of July when the 20-day simple moving average crossed above the 50-day on the chart, and the pattern has been sustained since.

Traders typically link the crossover to sustained rallies, and the most recent instance, on the 12th and the 13th of April, carried Bitcoin nearly 17% higher from $70,500 to above $82,458 within the same leg.

Bitcoin holds inside its undervalued zone

Bitcoin trading around the $66,000 region sits inside what AMBCrypto previously identified as the asset’s undervalued zone, based on its market value relative to the realized value of coins last moved on-chain.

Structure may favor a rally, but momentum still has to follow, and that requires Spot market netflows to turn positive as buyers outpace sellers over a sustained stretch.

Much of the resistance Bitcoin has met around this zone traces back to profit-taking and to the absence of fresh demand across Spot and perpetual markets, where netflows fell to negative 170,000 $BTC as of the 21st of July.

Final Summary

  • Short-term holder losses have narrowed from -20.48% in June to roughly -4.0%, leaving the cohort close enough to its $68,800 cost basis to hold.
  • Rising accumulation and a golden cross formation have been sustained, though spot and perpetual netflows remain negative at 170,000 $BTC.
