CoinShares has introduced a UCITS platform as part of a strategic expansion into Europe’s regulated investment fund industry. The move also extends its business beyond crypto exchange-traded products into traditional fund structures.

According to the company’s Tuesday statement, the platform enhances its asset management capabilities by adding another scalable product engine that supports regulated investment funds alongside its existing ETP, alternative investment and on-chain asset management businesses.

“This is not simply the launch of another investment product. It marks our entry into the UCITS market with a platform that allows us to develop and launch regulated investment funds under one of the world’s most widely recognized fund frameworks,” Jean-Marie Mognetti, CoinShares’ co-founder and chief executive, stated.

The launch opens the access to institutional investors whose mandates generally favor UCITS-compliant funds over debt-based crypto ETPs.

The company said pension funds, insurance platforms and private banks have historically faced restrictions on holding crypto ETPs even when they are physically backed. By introducing a UCITS structure, it said those investors can now access its investment strategies through a format already accepted under their mandates.

“The platform broadens the range of investors we can serve, creates an additional source of recurring management fee revenues and gives us a repeatable framework from which to launch future investment strategies,” Mognetti added.

The CoinShares Bitcoin Mining UCITS ETF is the first fund to be launched under the platform and began trading on Deutsche Börse Xetra on Tuesday.

CoinShares said the platform’s regulatory approval from the Central Bank of Ireland provides an authorized structure that can be reused for future funds, reducing launch costs and streamlining the product development process. The company plans to introduce additional digital asset and thematic UCITS strategies over time using the same framework.
