It Has Been Revealed That 92.7% of Institutional Bitcoin (BTC) Reserves Are Held by US-Based Companies

On July 31, 2026 by voice

Companies listed on US stock exchanges continue to rapidly increase their Bitcoin holdings. According to the latest data shared by the on-chain data platform Unfolded, the total amount of Bitcoin held by publicly traded companies in the US has reached 1.24 million $BTC. This figure represents 92.7% of the total Bitcoin reserves held by publicly traded companies worldwide.

Data reveals that US-based companies are by far the leaders in institutional Bitcoin ownership, with purchases reaching remarkable levels in the past year. Accordingly, companies traded on US exchanges added 510,000 $BTC to their portfolios in the last 12 months.

One of the most striking aspects of this increase is that the amount purchased far surpassed the amount of new Bitcoin produced during the same period. According to Unfolded data, the amount of Bitcoin purchased by publicly traded US companies in the last year was more than three times the amount of new $BTC produced by miners during the same period. This indicates that institutional demand is increasingly influencing the supply of Bitcoin.

In recent years, institutional Bitcoin purchases, particularly spearheaded by Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), have accelerated, leading numerous companies to add the digital asset to their balance sheets. Alongside this, many publicly traded companies operating in the energy, technology, and finance sectors have begun to consider Bitcoin as a long-term reserve asset.

Analysts note that intense buying by institutional companies could reduce the circulating supply of Bitcoin and impact price dynamics in the long term. They particularly point out that if institutional demand maintains its current pace, especially after the halving event when new Bitcoin production decreases, the supply-demand balance could tighten further.
