Bitcoin Whales Scoop Up Over $127M in BTC as Retail Sells—Can BTC Price Break Above $67,000?

On August 7, 2026 by voice

Bitcoin price has continued to trade within a narrow range around the $65,000 mark, but on-chain data suggests large investors are quietly accumulating despite cautious retail sentiment. Fresh whale transactions worth over $127 million, coupled with Santiment data showing continued accumulation by key stakeholders, indicate growing confidence among institutional players.

As $BTC approaches a major resistance zone around $66,500, investors are now watching whether sustained whale buying can provide the momentum needed to fuel a breakout toward $71,000.

Whale Accumulation Signals Growing Institutional Confidence

Bitcoin’s latest on-chain activity suggests that large investors continue to accumulate despite the asset trading below a key resistance level. Over the past few hours, multiple newly created wallets have received substantial $BTC transfers from leading crypto institutions and exchanges, indicating that high-net-worth investors may be positioning for a larger move.

According to Lookonchain, recently, four newly created wallets received a combined 1,540 $BTC, worth approximately $99.4 million, from Galaxy Digital and BitGo. Today, another newly created wallet withdrew 434.87 $BTC, valued at nearly $28 million, from Binance. In total, nearly 1,975 $BTC, worth over $127 million, was transferred into fresh wallets, reducing the amount of Bitcoin immediately available on exchanges. This accumulation is supported by whale accumulation, as whales have increased their holdings.

Santiment data shows that wallets holding between 10 and 10,000 $BTC have increased their holdings by 0.34% since July 29. In contrast, wallets holding less than 0.01 $BTC have reduced their Bitcoin holdings by 0.59% over the same period, suggesting that large investors continue to absorb supply while retail participants remain cautious.

The movement of large amounts of $BTC into newly created wallets is often interpreted as a sign of long-term accumulation rather than preparation for near-term selling. The on-chain activity points to sustained accumulation by major market participants. This occurs in times when Bitcoin’s price action is facing a crucial technical test that could determine whether this buying pressure is enough to trigger the next leg higher.

Bitcoin Approaches a Decisive Breakout Zone

Bitcoin continues to consolidate within an ascending triangle after rebounding sharply from its June lows, signalling that buyers are gradually gaining control. The formation of higher lows since late June indicates sustained demand, while the horizontal resistance around $66,550 has capped every recovery attempt over the past several weeks. A decisive breakout above this range could confirm the pattern breakout and shift the momentum in favour of bulls.

Adding to the constructive outlook, the Volume Profile highlights a high-volume node between $64,000 and $66,000, indicating that this range has become an important value area where buyers continue to defend price. As long as Bitcoin remains above this zone, the broader recovery structure remains intact. Meanwhile, the Directional Movement Index (DMI) reflects a market entering a period of consolidation. The +DI and -DI lines have converged, while the ADX has eased to around 20, signalling weakening trend strength and reduced volatility.

Such conditions often precede a significant directional move, making the current resistance zone a critical area to monitor. Overall, Bitcoin remains range-bound in the short term, but the combination of sustained whale accumulation and tightening price action suggests that a decisive breakout may be approaching.

Can Whale Accumulation Trigger a Bitcoin Price Breakout Above $70,000?

Whale accumulation and declining retail participation point to improving long-term sentiment. However, Bitcoin’s near-term direction will likely be determined by whether buyers can finally clear $66,550 resistance. A decisive breakout above this zone will attract fresh buying interest and open the door beyond $70,000 to $71,500. Sustained momentum could extend gains to $74,000, bringing $80,000 resistance back in focus.

In the meantime, a failure could compel the $BTC price to revisit the $64,000 support, while a breakdown may expose it to the $61,000 support or lower to $59,000.
