Raoul Pal: Bitcoin’s Oversold Signal vs Nasdaq Points to Long-Term Crypto Outperformance

On August 22, 2026 by voice

Raoul Pal, co-founder of Real Vision and a prominent macro investor, has highlighted that Bitcoin recently entered a deeply oversold zone relative to the Nasdaq, trading more than two standard deviations below its historical mean before staging a sharp rebound. Pal, who has long been a vocal advocate for digital assets, noted that while it is still early to draw definitive conclusions, the long-term trajectory suggests cryptocurrencies could outperform the Nasdaq.

Understanding the Bitcoin/Nasdaq Relative Strength Indicator

The relative strength indicator (RSI) comparing Bitcoin to the Nasdaq measures how Bitcoin performs against a basket of major technology stocks. A move beyond two standard deviations below the mean is statistically rare and often signals that the asset is undervalued relative to its counterpart. Pal explained that such extremes have historically preceded strong rebounds, as seen in recent trading sessions.

For investors, this indicator serves as a useful tool when constructing a diversified portfolio. When Bitcoin’s relative strength dips to such extremes, it may present a buying opportunity for those with a long-term horizon. However, Pal cautioned that technical signals alone should not dictate investment decisions, and broader macroeconomic factors remain critical.

Why This Matters for Crypto and Equity Investors

The relationship between Bitcoin and the Nasdaq is closely watched because both are considered risk assets, often moving in tandem with shifts in liquidity and investor sentiment. Yet, the recent divergence—where Bitcoin fell faster than tech stocks—highlights its higher volatility and sensitivity to interest rate expectations.

Pal’s outlook aligns with his broader thesis that digital assets represent a secular trend driven by monetary debasement and technological adoption. He has previously compared the current phase to the early internet era, suggesting that despite short-term turbulence, the asset class could deliver substantial returns over the coming years.

What Investors Should Consider

While the oversold signal is noteworthy, it is not a guarantee of immediate gains. Pal emphasized that the rebound could take time to develop, and further downside cannot be ruled out. Investors should assess their risk tolerance and time horizon before adjusting allocations.

Moreover, the Nasdaq’s own performance—bolstered by AI-driven enthusiasm—remains a formidable benchmark. If tech earnings continue to surprise to the upside, the relative performance gap could persist. Still, Pal’s long-term view suggests that the asymmetric upside of cryptocurrencies may favor patient investors.
