Bitcoin reserves at Binance hit a 2-year high – Is selling pressure building?

On September 12, 2026 by voice

Binance’s Bitcoin [$BTC] holdings have climbed above 693,000 $BTC—the highest level in almost two years. In fact, Binance’s holdings have risen by around 77,000 $BTC since the end of April.

The most simple reason behind this surge could be that investors transferred Bitcoin to Binance [$BNB] during periods of strong price appreciation. This mainly includes the May rally and the more recent August rally.

For those confused, when investors expect to sell, they often move $BTC from personal or cold wallets to exchanges to make large trades’ execution easier.

Therefore, a rising exchange balance can sometimes indicate that potential selling supply is building up, although it’s not a final confirmation on the sell-off.

What’s actually behind this surge?

Well, Binance’s deep liquidity explains why it is seeing such large Bitcoin flows.

Traders who want to buy or sell substantial amounts of $BTC generally prefer such platforms because large orders can be executed with less impact on the market price.

The second reason behind this surge could be SAFU, or the Secure Asset Fund for Users. SAFU is Binance’s emergency protection mechanism designed to help protect users in extreme situations.

To help the Bitcoin community through this transitional period, this fund intends to deploy $1 billion to secure roughly 15,000 $BTC.

The last reason could be the rise in scams and hacks, where the total losses have already crossed $1.732 billion in 2026. So for instance, when the recent ColdCard exploit happened, in which the attacker is still moving the stolen Bitcoin, some holders temporarily moved their Bitcoin to established third-party platforms.

Is this an early warning sign of a sell-off?

This comes on the heels of Bitcoin’s supply growth surging at a faster pace in 2026 than in several previous years. The 2026 line has reached roughly 6–7 million $BTC by around day 250. Drawing comparisons with 2025 and earlier years at similar points, the 2026 pace appears relatively strong, suggesting more $BTC is entering the market.

However, this surge has also created an unwanted FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) in the market. This is because if a large portion of over 693,000 $BTC held on Binance eventually moves into the market for sale, it could increase available supply and potentially create additional downward pressure on price.

$BNB’s price jump above $725 is crucial

This comes as $BNB’s price was trading at $712.97 after a drop of a modest daily and weekly decline but a monthly hike of over 16%. AMBCrypto recently reported that $BNB is now testing the $700 support level.

Therefore, holding above the support of level at $700 could stabilize the price, while a break below could push it toward $680–$690. However, for a recovery, $BNB would first need to reclaim $725, followed by resistance around $750.

However, with $BNB Chain gaining momentum in real-world asset (RWA) tokenization, with tokenized-asset holders rising 320% in 30 days and potentially reaching 800,000 users, hope remains.

At the same time, Bitcoin’s price was down at $76,983.20 at press time. But Bitcoin’s unrealized profit remaining elevated near $120K suggests there is underlying bullish support in the market.

Final Summary

  • Binance’s deep liquidity is the main reason why it became the first choice for Bitcoin holders.
  • Rise in scams explains why some holders temporarily moved their Bitcoin to established third-party platforms.
