60,000 BTC Added as Bitcoin’s Largest Holders Appear Willing to Retain More BTC Into the Recovery

On October 15, 2026 by voice

Bitcoin whale holdings climbed by about 60,000 $BTC to nearly 3 million as large holders increased exposure during the latest market recovery.

Bitcoin’s largest non-exchange holders have added roughly 60,000 $BTC as the market recovered, pushing their combined balance from about 2.94 million $BTC to nearly 3 million.

The increase suggests large holders were expanding exposure into the rebound rather than using the recovery primarily to reduce positions.

The CryptoQuant chart tracks whale balances while excluding addresses identified as exchanges and mining pools. That distinction makes the series more useful for following large holder behavior without some of the operational balances that can distort wallet-based readings.

Bitcoin whale balances, excluding exchange and mining-pool addresses, rose from roughly 2.94 million $BTC to nearly 3 million $BTC in late September and early October. Holdings have since eased slightly from the recent peak. Source: CryptoQuant.

Whale holdings spent much of August and September around the 2.93 million to 2.95 million $BTC range before weakening late in September. The change did not last long.

By the end of September, balances turned sharply higher and continued expanding into early October.

Whales Add Around 2% to Their Bitcoin Holdings

The increase from roughly 2.94 million $BTC to around 3 million $BTC represents an addition of about 60,000 $BTC, or just over 2%.

That is meaningful given the starting size of the cohort.

The 30-day average of whale balances also began turning higher after remaining relatively flat through much of the preceding period.

This suggests the latest increase was large enough to influence the broader monthly trend rather than appearing only as a small one-day fluctuation.

The timing is also notable.

Bitcoin price had already started recovering when whale balances accelerated. Large holders were therefore adding into improving market conditions rather than accumulating exclusively during the earlier weakness.

Rising Balances Could Help Absorb Available Supply

Increasing whale balances can be consistent with supply absorption when the coins remain in those wallets.

If large holders continue retaining the additional $BTC, fewer of those coins remain available to satisfy selling elsewhere in the market. That can provide support during periods when shorter-term traders take profits or when price enters consolidation.

The chart does not reveal why each whale acquired Bitcoin, whether all of the increase represents outright purchases, or how long those positions will remain unchanged. Wallet-balance movements by themselves also do not establish where Bitcoin price goes next.

Still, the direction of the balance change is clear: the tracked whale cohort ended the period holding substantially more Bitcoin than it did before the recovery accelerated.

The Next Test Is Whether Whales Keep the Added $BTC

There is already one detail worth watching.

After briefly reaching around the 3 million $BTC mark, total whale holdings have eased slightly from the local peak.

The pullback is small compared with the earlier 60,000 $BTC expansion, but it changes what matters next.

Another daily increase would add little by itself. A stronger signal would be for whale balances to remain elevated through Bitcoin pullbacks and periods of weaker price action.

If holdings stay close to the recent highs, it would suggest that much of the newly accumulated supply remains in stronger hands.

A sustained decline back toward the September range, on the other hand, would show that at least part of the recent accumulation was temporary.

For now, the chart shows a clear shift: Bitcoin whales expanded their holdings as price recovered, taking the cohort’s balance to its highest area on the displayed 2026 timeline.
