September Sparked a Dormant Bitcoin Revival: $342M in Long-Lost BTC Moves

On October 4, 2025 by voice

With bitcoin’s volatile price chaos in September rattling traders yet still locking in a 5.16% monthly gain, data shows 2,803.62 long-silent bitcoin, worth $342 million, finally broke their slumber and moved for the first time in years.

70 Dormant Wallets From Early Days Moved Over 2,800 BTC

According to blockchain parser btcparser.com, September logged 70 distinct moves from long-forgotten BTC wallets created between 2011 and 2017. Across those 70 transfers, a total of 2,803.62 BTC was unleashed—stacking up to $342.73 million at the current $122,247 per coin exchange rate. Wallets born in 2013 and 2017 claimed the crown for the heaviest spenders.

The earliest spenders were two wallets from 2011, which shifted 35.00002736 BTC. Two wallets from 2012 moved a decent 242.16489373 BTC worth $29.6 million. But the biggest showout was from 2013 wallets, as 887.43677750 BTC valued at $108.48 million was shifted by ten distinct legacy wallets. From the 887.43677750 BTC tied to 2013 wallets, the biggest single move came in at a hefty 200 BTC.

Roughly 295.27301324 BTC trickled out of eight wallets born in 2014, with the year’s headline move being a 99 BTC shift from a Jan. 23 wallet. In 2015, about 323.64998707 BTC left 16 wallets, while 2016 saw 278.41990869 BTC flow from 13 addresses. Coming in just behind 2013’s tally, 2017 wallets unloaded a hefty 741.67547160 BTC across 17 transactions.

Bitcoin’s old-school wallets aren’t just relics of the early days—they’re treasure chests with a flair for drama. September’s wave of activity proves that coins can sit in silence for a decade and still command a blockbuster entrance. With 2013 and 2017 wallets leading the charge, the data feels like a time capsule cracking open, spilling millions into today’s market.

Whether these moves were long-planned cash-outs, strategic rediscoveries, or someone finally dusting off a forgotten hard drive, one thing’s clear: dormant bitcoin never really sleeps, it just waits for the right cue. September’s 70 awakenings remind us that the past has a sneaky way of crashing today’s party—worth hundreds of millions, no less.
