YZi Labs (formerly Binance Labs), affiliated with Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ), has begun expanding its investment footprint by making its first biotech investment in 2025 in regenerative medicine-focused Renewal Bio.
With its developmental platform, called “Stembroid,” Renewal Bio aims to generate DNA-identical human cells and tissues from patients’ own cells. The company aims to develop a scientific solution to the global organ and tissue shortage.
In an official statement, YZi Labs stated that the investment is not only part of its portfolio diversification but also part of its long-term vision to address global health challenges. Renewal Bio’s Stembroid-based approach is seen as having the potential to transform the future for millions of patients waiting for organ transplants.
The new funding will accelerate the preclinical development of Stembroid-derived Hematopoietic Stem Cells (HSCs) for use primarily in the treatment of leukemia and immune system disorders. It will also expand the platform’s R&D efforts into liver, heart, and pancreatic cells.
