Apple picks Google’s Gemini to power new Siri upgrade, deepens AI push

Apple has selected Google’s Gemini AI model to power a major upgrade to Siri, according to a report from CNBC. The deal marks a significant shift for Apple, which will use Google’s multimodal AI to enhance Siri’s conversational abilities starting later this year.

The partnership is part of a broader, multi-year agreement that includes Gemini models and Google Cloud infrastructure. CNBC’s Jim Cramer obtained a statement from Apple confirming the collaboration.

Apple said it chose Google’s technology because it offers the strongest foundation for its own AI models, adding that the partnership will help unlock new, innovative experiences for users.

The move comes amid growing competition in the AI space and a reshuffling in tech valuations. Google’s parent company, Alphabet, briefly surpassed Apple’s market cap for the first time since 2019, hitting an intraday value of over $4 trillion. At press time, Alphabet’s market value stood at $3.9 trillion, while Apple hovered around $3.83 trillion.

Shares of Google rose 0.3% on the day, while Apple stock gained 0.6%.

The deal positions both firms to capitalize on rising demand for intelligent assistants and multimodal models, with Siri’s overhaul likely to be one of the most visible AI deployments in consumer devices this year.
