The tokenized real-world assets sector just crossed a major threshold. Total value locked in RWAs surpassed $31 billion in 2026, up nearly four times from $7.8 billion at the start of 2025. Market capitalization reached $19.3 billion by the end of Q1 2026. With a 256.7% increase in just fifteen months, according to CoinGecko’s RWA Report 2026. However, the pace is accelerating, not slowing. RWA news today confirms this is no longer an experimental corner of crypto. It is becoming a core pillar of institutional finance.

The Numbers Driving the Surge

Tokenized treasuries remain the dominant asset class, adding $9 billion in market cap. With a 225.5% increase, they crossed the $10 billion mark for the first time on February 11, 2026. Despite that growth, treasuries’ market share actually slipped slightly from 73.7% to 67.2% as other asset classes caught up.

Tokenized commodities tell an equally striking story. Market cap rose 289% from $1.43 billion to $5.55 billion, driven almost entirely by gold-backed tokens. Tether‘s XAUT and Paxos’ PAXG together accounted for 89.1% of that expansion. Tokenized gold price momentum was the clear catalyst. The spot trading volume for tokenized gold hit $90.7 billion in Q1 2026 alone. It is already surpassing the $84.6 billion traded across all of 2025.

The Emerging Asset Classes

Tokenized stocks launched in mid-2025 and scaled from just $2 million to $486 million by the end of Q1 2026. Circle emerged as the largest tokenized stock at $171 million in market cap. Followed by Tesla at $61.7 million and Nvidia at $42.6 million. Spot trading of tokenized stocks hit $15.1 billion in Q1 2026 alone. It is already exceeding the $14.8 billion traded in the entire second half of 2025.

Tokenized ETFs, though smaller at $297 million, showed broad-based growth with no single dominant asset. This is a sign of healthy diversification across the category. RWA perpetuals are the most explosive story. Total perps volume hit $524.8 billion in Q1 2026, more than the entire $313 billion recorded across all of 2025. Hyperliquid‘s HIP-3 alone captured 28.6% of monthly RWA perps volume by March 2026, up from 2.8% at launch in October 2025.

What This Means for Investors and Developers

For investors, TVL 2026 data makes one thing clear. Institutional capital is moving into tokenized assets at a pace that is outrunning even stablecoins. RWAs now represent 6.4% of stablecoin market cap, up from just 2.7% at the start of 2025. That ratio will keep rising as bonds, gold, equities, and ETFs continue migrating on-chain.

For developers, the RWA stack is becoming the most competitive build environment in crypto. Issuers are now differentiating on regulatory standing, asset coverage, and distribution reach. The infrastructure layer custody, compliance, oracles, and settlement rails are remains wide open for innovation. The tokenization of traditional finance is not a future narrative anymore. It is a present reality with $31 billion in TVL to prove it.
