A market report indicates that the rebate applies to both internal network transactions and routes directed to other blockchain ecosystems. With this update, users without a prior balance of the $SOL token in their wallet can complete eligible operations without interruption.
Normally, executing any smart contract on Solana requires holding a fraction of the native cryptocurrency to pay for processing costs. MetaMask documentation suggests that this requirement used to represent a technical obstacle for users transferring funds from EVM-compatible networks.
By eliminating the initial $SOL balance requirement for amounts over $200, intermediate steps in the transaction process are reduced. Analysts note that this feature serves as an alternative to simplify onboarding for new users coming from other chains.
Friction reduction in cross-chain swaps

The average transaction cost within the Solana network usually remains below $0.001. According to data from Solana Compass, subsidizing this amount represents a marginal operational cost for the platform, which charges a standard service fee of 0.875% per processed swap.
Cross-blockchain transactions typically involve multiple contracts, variable fees, and complex routing. Technical information published by the wallet indicates that the feature automates fee settlement without requiring additional configurations in the interface.
Despite the benefit regarding network fees, market risks remain the responsibility of each investor. Industry sources remind users to review slippage levels, route liquidity, and token prices before authorizing any operation.
The rollout of this gas sponsorship consolidates MetaMask’s expansion into non-EVM networks. Over the coming quarters, the firm plans to monitor the tool’s performance to evaluate its potential extension to lower amounts or additional networks.
