The crypto market capitalization fell by nearly $27 billion on July 23, amid a notable sell-off in the Nasdaq 100 index and broader technology stocks.
On Thursday, the crypto market cap declined by $26,909,225,074, down from $2,327,831,630,015 at the beginning of the day to about $2,300,922,404,941 at the time of reporting, according to data from CoinGecko. Consequently, the total crypto valuation registered a 1.16% drop.

As the crypto market cap retreated today, the Nasdaq 100 index shed over 2.5%. The sell-off in the crypto market and technology stocks was influenced by the escalating Iran conflict as investors digested earnings results, as per an update from The Kobeissi Letter.
Amid the escalating Middle East crisis, the U.S. Dollar Currency Index (DXY) gained bullish momentum, according to analysis shared by Aksel Kibar, a former fund manager. As such, Bitcoin (BTC) led the broader crypto market in a sell-off, resulting in liquidation of over $180 million in long trades, according to metrics from CoinGlass.
Factors likely to impact the crypto market next
The cryptocurrency market decline today has coincided with Clarity Act news updates and a surge in whale activity. For instance, $XRP whales have increased their accumulation rate over the past two weeks, amid $XRP Ledger tokenization growth, as Finbold reported.
Meanwhile, as the Clarity Act bill promises to create clear rules for the cryptocurrency industry, Grayscale stated that it would unlock the next wave of crypto adoption. Furthermore, the crypto industry is expected to facilitate the mainstream adoption of traditional finance (TradFi) through tokenization of real-world assets (RWA).
Already, on-chain analysis shows a Bitcoin whale activity surge, particularly an increase in buying pressure. For instance, the United States spot Bitcoin ETFs (Exchange-Traded Funds) have registered seven consecutive days of cash inflow, as per details from SoSoValue.
