Blockchain Moves Beyond the Crypto Hype

Digital assets are moving from speculative markets into the infrastructure used to issue assets, transfer money, and settle financial transactions, according to CNBC and Statista’s World’s Top Fintech Companies 2026, an annual survey of leading financial technology businesses across eight industry segments.

Forty companies were recognized in the digital assets category, which highlights businesses developing blockchain infrastructure and related financial services. The category represented 8% of the companies included in this year’s list.

Ripple celebrated the recognition in an X post on July 22, saying the achievement reflects years of building customer relationships and maintaining momentum through multiple market cycles rather than short-term industry trends.

CNBC said blockchain is being used in real-world business cases as the sector becomes more institutionalized, with financial firms increasingly adopting the technology for payments, custody, tokenization, compliance and liquidity management.

Ripple continues to position $XRP as part of its institutional payments strategy. CEO Brad Garlinghouse recently said the company sees an opportunity in the approximately $16 trillion processed annually through correspondent banking, an area Ripple has long targeted with blockchain-based cross-border payment technology.

Ripple Expands Its Institutional Footprint

CNBC and Statista assessed about 3,500 companies using more than 25,000 data points before selecting this year’s honorees. The list is presented alphabetically within each category rather than as a numerical ranking.

Ripple has also secured compliance under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework, expanding its ability to offer regulated digital asset services across the bloc. The milestone gives financial institutions a clearer path to Ripple’s infrastructure under Europe’s unified crypto rules.

Institutional adoption is also expanding on the $XRP Ledger. DBS and Franklin Templeton connected RLUSD with a tokenized money-market fund, creating a framework for real-time access to tokenized assets and liquidity. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said similar developments are reshaping regulated finance, describing tokenized assets as a structural shift in its tokenized finance analysis.

Fintech Reaches New Highs

Fintech generated $650 billion in revenue during 2025, up 21% from the previous year, according to McKinsey data cited by CNBC. Publicly listed fintech companies also reached a record combined market capitalization of $850 billion.

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) said digital innovation is creating new possibilities for how money and assets are recorded, transferred, and settled. Its 2026 annual report said tokenization can modernize payment systems, while warning that growth must be supported by trusted settlement assets, effective oversight, and safeguards for financial integrity.

$XRP is also appearing in investment products from established asset managers. T. Rowe Price included $XRP among the leading holdings in an actively managed spot cryptocurrency exchange-traded fund alongside bitcoin and ether, widening regulated access for investors who prefer a conventional brokerage account. The launch adds another institutional channel for $XRP beyond direct ownership and blockchain-based settlement through the T. Rowe Price crypto ETF.
