Michael Saylor’s Strategy is now tracking bitcoin’s 200-week moving average
If you’ve been tracking crypto markets, you’ve likely seen analysts flag bitcoin’s $BTC$62,756.07 200-week moving average (200W MA) as a key inflection line where the broader trend can turn decisively higher. This line represents bitcoin’s average closing price over roughly four years.
Strategy is now tracking the same indicator, along with bitcoin’s premium (or discount) to that average. The firm’s Founder, Michael Saylor, announced it on X on Sunday, reinforcing the long-term average as a pivotal level for traders and investors alike.
“We’re now tracking Bitcoin’s 200-week moving average and its premium to that level on http://Strategy.com. Since the 200W MA became available, Bitcoin has traded above it 92% of the time. Today, it sits almost exactly on the line,” Saylor said Sunday on X.
However, in the hours since the post, prices have come under pressure, likely over concerns about a delay in the passage of the long-awaited Clarity Act, which is expected to unlock a significant institutional bid for digital assets. According to reports, the Senate did not list the Clarity Act in Monday’s agenda.
As such, $BTC is now trading near $63,000, at a slight discount to the 200-week simple moving average at $63,770, according to data from CoinDesk.
Traders and analysts widely track moving averages to gauge the broader trend while filtering out day-to-day price noise. These indicators can take on a self-fulfilling character, and that tendency often strengthens when influential names like Strategy begin highlighting them. Strategy holds 843,775 bitcoin, worth about $53 billion.
Widely followed averages such as the 50-, 100-, and 200-day (and their weekly counterparts) frequently act as resistance zones where sellers emerge or as support levels where demand consistently steps in.
The 200-week average is an example of the latter level, where previous bear markets have tended to run out of steam once prices dipped to or below it.
According to Kraken’s analyst, buying bitcoin when it trades at a discount to that average has produced median returns of more than 113% over 12 months and 313% over two years.
It remains to be seen if history repeats itself.
