BREAKING: Donald Trump’s Company Decides to Distance Itself from Cryptocurrencies – Price of One Altcoin Plummets

Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), under new management, is redefining its strategic focus while backtracking on some of its plans in the cryptocurrency space. The Truth Social parent company is ending two previously announced deals with Crypto.com, aiming to redirect its resources to media operations and its planned merger with fusion energy company TAE.
Speaking to Axios, TMTG Interim CEO Kevin McGurn stated that the company wants to adopt a more focused strategy, noting that the digital asset treasury market has largely reached saturation point in the past year. This shift represents a significant departure from the company’s previous strategy, which aimed for aggressive growth in the crypto and financial services sectors by 2025, a time when crypto treasury companies would rapidly gain popularity.
Trump Media, Crypto.com, and special purpose acquisition company Yorkville Acquisition Corp. announced today that they have mutually terminated their plans for the Trump Media Group $CRO Strategy initiative. The companies cited current market conditions and evolving business and stakeholder priorities as the reasons for the decision.
The parties also agreed not to launch certain digital asset products associated with a previously announced service agreement. In return, it was stated that the existing America First ETFs, managed by Yorkville America and operating under the Truth Social Funds brand, would continue to function.
The planned $CRO Strategy initiative envisioned Trump Media’s Crypto.com brand being licensed into a publicly traded company built on the Cronos blockchain and the $CRO token. The company was intended to build up a large reserve of $CRO and generate additional returns through staking. When the initiative was first announced, the parties stated that the resulting entity would be the “first and largest publicly traded $CRO treasury company.”

McGurn stated that the fact that staking of $CRO assets has not become as important to Crypto.com as it once was makes sense for the parties to go in different directions. The CEO also indicated that the decision was made due to competitive conditions rather than regulatory concerns about a Trump-linked company operating in an industry regulated by the Trump administration.
Trump Media and Crypto.com also scaled back their plans to directly integrate prediction markets into the Truth Social platform in a separate agreement. Instead, the parties will work on a marketing agreement that will introduce Crypto.com’s prediction market products to Truth Social users.
McGurn stated that the prediction marketplace sector has already become quite crowded with strong players, and therefore, building the infrastructure directly within Trump Media would not be an efficient use of company resources. He indicated that TMTG believes it has greater opportunities as a distribution and data partner rather than being the direct operator of the prediction marketplaces.
The company is also focusing on transforming Truth Social’s user base and data into new revenue streams. According to McGurn, the number of customers for the recently launched TMTG API service has increased from approximately 5 to 10. Direct customers include high-frequency trading companies that use data from platforms like Truth Social in algorithmic trading.
McGurn also said that news and information organizations, as well as index providers, were interested in the company, and that TMTG was evaluating options for data licensing agreements with major language model developers and forecasting market platforms.
