Bitwise Research Head Explains Stablecoin Market Could Reach Record Levels in the Coming Years!

Bitwise Research Head Ryan Rasmussen said the stablecoin market could grow many times larger than its current size in the coming years. In a recent interview, Rasmussen predicted that the stablecoin market, currently at around $300 billion, could reach between $3 trillion and $5 trillion.

Rasmussen argued that investors, in particular, have not adequately priced in Circle’s growth potential. He stated that Circle, given its current market share and position, could significantly benefit from clearer stablecoin regulations in the US, and that the company would go beyond being merely an issuer of stablecoins.

According to a Bitwise executive, payment infrastructure could become Circle’s second largest area of business. Rasmussen stated that the company is focused on developing infrastructure that will enable payments to be made within a stablecoin-based financial system, and that Circle could become a significant player in both the stablecoin and payments sectors within five years.

Rasmussen also commented on the increasing competition in the stablecoin market. He noted that the OpenUSD (OUSD) project, developed by OpenStandard, has attracted interest from major companies in the sector, with over 140 payment and crypto companies, including Visa and BlackRock, participating.

However, Rasmussen believes that OpenUSD does not pose a significant threat to Circle, and that the emergence of new competitors is not expected to hinder the company’s growth. According to him, competition in the stablecoin sector indicates a growing interest from traditional financial companies in digital payment infrastructures.

Rasmussen emphasized that Circle’s most significant advantage is its ability to continuously evolve its business model as the regulated stablecoin market develops. With the regulatory framework becoming clearer in the US, it is predicted that stablecoin adoption could spread not only in the cryptocurrency market but also in global payment systems.
