While Eyes on US CPI Data in the Cryptocurrency Market, Options Investors Have Made Their Decision! Here Are the Details

In the cryptocurrency market, Bitcoin and Ethereum are trading in a narrow range ahead of the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) data release, while options traders are increasing their positions for a potential upward breakout. The market expects the inflation data to be decisive in Bitcoin’s exit from its current narrow trading range.
Bitcoin has recently been fluctuating between $62,000 and $66,000, and investors believe that the CPI data could end the market’s search for direction. In particular, if inflation comes in below expectations, it is anticipated that expectations of interest rate cuts will strengthen, and demand for risky assets will increase.
The derivatives market also shows signs of bullish expectations. According to Deribit data, approximately $2.5 million in capital has been invested in Bitcoin call options expiring in September with a strike price of $70,000. This movement indicates that some investors are taking positions based on the expectation that Bitcoin could surpass the $70,000 level in the near future.
In contrast, some institutional investors focus on volatility rather than direction. Institutions like TDX Strategy recommend the strangle strategy, which aims to profit from sharp movements regardless of the price’s direction.
On-chain data indicates that spot market buying remains stronger compared to the derivatives market. While derivatives investors appear to be acting cautiously with short positions, Nansen data shows that over $164.6 million worth of Ethereum has been withdrawn from exchanges in the last week. These outflows from exchanges support expectations that investors are accumulating ETH.
In the short term, the US CPI data, as well as interest rate expectations and positioning in the derivatives market, will continue to be key factors in determining the market’s direction.
