Base introduced a suite of new features during its “A New Day One” conference, marking a major evolution for the Ethereum layer-2 network. The platform formally rebranded as Basechain, signaling a broader vision beyond its original affiliation with Coinbase.
The biggest technical upgrade is Flashblocks, which slashes block times from two seconds to 200 milliseconds, making Basechain 10 times faster and positioning it as one of the fastest L2s in the ecosystem.
Basechain also rebranded Coinbase Wallet to Base app, now an all-in-one app combining social, discovery, chat, payments, and trading. The redesign aims to offer a seamless user experience that unifies key aspects of Web3 interaction under one interface.
Another core launch is MagicSpend, which lets users pay gas fees and send transactions using their existing Coinbase balances. The goal is to eliminate friction by allowing seamless activity without manual fee management.
To accelerate development on the network, Basechain announced Base Build, a new initiative aligned with its ambition to onboard 1 million developers. The program will offer tools and support to bring more builders into the Base ecosystem.
